Ready for another new pattern release!?
This is the pattern I didn’t even know I needed until I had it but boy, oh boy was I in need of it! What pattern am I talking about, you ask? Well the new Patterns for Pirates Brunch Blouse of course!
In case you missed it, I had a pretty adventurous time sewing a dress made out of a beautiful woven fabric a few months ago that made me a bit nervous to take on this project, but the style was so cute and I already had the fabric (a silky print from JoAnn’s) in my stash so I took the leap and made another dress, this time with much better results!
Now don’t get me wrong, I still love me some good knits but sometimes I have a hard time getting a good “dressy” or “professional” look from my beloved and oh so comfy Double Brushed Polyester or Cotton Spandex blends. Wovens, however, lend themselves much better to a dressy and professional look but of course can be totally casual too (it’s all about that styling!).
I had been noticing some serious holes in my wardrobe for casual yet still more professional things to wear to the main office I travel to for work a couple of times a month and was at a loss for how to fill those holes. Enter the Brunch Blouse! Designed for wovens with seemingly endless pattern options included, including a tank, cap sleeve, and short sleeve, dress, shirt, or tank, chest pockets, Henley plackets, and waist ties, it took me no time at all to whip up three different versions of this beautiful pattern (only two of which are shown here because I was lazy and didn’t want to do laundry, not sorry about it.)
Can we just take a moment to appreciate that curved hem? It’s the perfect length for making this dress office appropriate but the waist ties and Henley neckline give what would have been an otherwise simple dress more interest and a little bit of sex appeal.
I am obsessed with how slim it makes me look and how the ties help keep the dress in place all day. I wore this particular dress to a conference just this last week and not only did numerous people ask if I had lost some weight (I wish!) but I did not have to adjust it once! No tugging it down or pulling the neck line up, no shimmies in the bathroom stall to get the waist ties back down to my natural waist. There is just enough ease that the ties can do their job and I look dang good, all day!
Version two is a much simpler version of the
Brunch Blouse, a curved hem top with cap sleeves in a beautiful fall floral. The curved hem works just as well on the top as it did on the dress and i love that it gives a little extra bum coverage.
It may be more simple bit it is also so incredibly versatile. The cap sleeves fit easily under a blazer or cardigan but still count as a “sleeve” for the more strict dress codes. I love it as it is, however, with some white jeans like in the picture.
Real talk, I actually wore this exact outfit to brunch last weekend. Basic, yes, but also delicious.
